You need a Tennessee State Marriage License to be married in the State of Tennessee.
Where and how do you get one? Below, we list all the locations in the Sevier County (our region) where you can obtain one. Please go to the Sevier County website to check office hours.
Also, please note that you must follow all of their requirements to obtain your marriage license. Please pay careful attention to their requirements listed here on the Sevier County website. This includes having all of the correct identification and paperwork.

A few things to keep in mind before heading to one of the locations:
- Both the bride and groom must be 18 years or older. Call the clerk’s office for detailed rules concerning circumstances where one or both persons are under 18.
- If you are a resident of the State of Tennessee, you pay the license fee (currently $101) and the processing fee resident (currently $60), for your marriage license.
- Want to save some money and experience the benefits of a pre-marriage class? If you attend a four hour premarital preparation course and present the clerk’s office with a notarized certificate of completion, they will waive the $60 processing fee. to waive the $60.00 fee accessed for not taking this course. All non-Tennessee residents getting married in Sevier county will pay $38.50. We have been fortunate to be categorized in a tourism zone that allows us to offer this special lowered rate.
- If you are not a resident of Tennessee, the cost is $41 plus the processing fee for your marriage license. The area is categorized as being in a tourism zone, so happily you receive a special lower rate!
